Today in St.Gemma's Home Ec class we made scones. We used the rubbing-in method. It was quite easy. We just needed to rub the butter into the flour and sugar until it looked like breadcrumbs. We had to knead the dough so that they rose evenly. They ended up looking good. They tasted good too! Home-made brown bread made by 1st years during their 1st cooking practical class. Excellent work by all students!
Ms. Teeling's First year classes took part in a demonstration of Jammy Coconut Biscuits. They learnt about the key skills that are used in the making of the biscuits, the importance of safety and hygiene in the kitchen and recipe modification.
Today we made apple crumble, the process was quick and easy. We used the rubbing-in method for the crumble and stewing for the apple, we then placed it in the oven to bake for just over 15 minutes. To mix things up you could modify the recipe and add different fruits such as raspberries or blackberries, depending on what is in-season. You can add some cream or ice cream as a side, garnished with mint!

Today we cooked baguette based pizza's. It was really fun seeing as the other day we moved seats and we were with different partners. They feel and taste crispy they also taste cheesy but that's how we like it. The topping we had today was pepperoni as it is one of our favourites! You can put any topping you want on it, like some of our classmates put, pineapples and vegetables on it. It is also very good for using up stale bread so that it doesn't go to waste.Over all we really recommend them. Blog post by Lauren & Caoimhe:
Today we made delicious, warm, golden chocolate chip cookies. We use the quick and easy creaming method to make them! they only took 15 minutes in the oven! They were golden, chewy and crumbly. They tasted delicious and were easy to make. We also enjoyed decorating them! |
